Don’t Do It Yourself
Electricity and water can be a dangerous combination, and when it comes to repairing or replacing pool lights, you need the expertise of a trained professional. Ensure that you remain safe and your pool or spa is undamaged by trusting the professionals. Changing a light bulb in a swimming pool is very different from changing a lightbulb in your home. Mechanical knowledge and safety training are essential for pool light repair.
It can be tricky reassembling the lighting fixtures after changing the bulbs in a spa or pool. If done incorrectly, moisture can leak into the fixture and damage it further – or have significant safety implications. Or, you may have to replace the fixture, much more expensive than a properly done light bulb change.
Common Replacement Issues
Replacing Pool Light Bulbs
Replacing the light gasket and a burned-out bulb are the most common types of pool light repair. Did you know that delaying the bulb change may lead to further damage to the light fixture itself? It’s important to have burned out bulbs changed without delay.
Expect your pool light replacement service to take between 1 to 2 hours, depending on how many bulbs we need to replace and whether there’s a need for minor repairs, or if our technicians need to enter the water to replace the bulb.
Replacing Pool Light Gaskets
Another common pool light replacement job is replacing or fixing the lens gaskets. The rubber gasket in the front of the light keeps water from leaking into the fixture. If leaks occur, the light can short out. Over time, many pool lights are subject to corrosion, due to extensive moisture exposure, causing the lights to fail permanently. Regular preventative maintenance of the gaskets and pool lights themselves can reduce the effects of corrosion and ensure that the seal stays snugly in place.
If the light fixture is too damaged, it will need to be replaced. The moisture can even get into the back of the fixture, where the wiring cord is attached, and into the internal wiring. When this occurs, the fixture should be immediately removed and replaced, for the safety of all pool users. Luckily, our design team has a wide range of replacement fixures, in many different styles and at several budget-friendly price points, including colored lights and LED options.
Trust the San Diego County Pool Light Repair, Experts
Your service call begins with an inspection of the pool or spa lighting, removing the entire light, and placing it on the pool deck to determine the problem. We’ll take each light apart and clean and dry each piece to see if there’s a need for repair or replacement. Once we’ve found the problem, we’ll quickly, yet carefully, fix it!
Then, we put the reassembled fixture back into place and change the bulb. We test each light to ensure that it’s working properly.
The type of bulb, such as LED, fluorescent, incandescent, or halogen, that we recommend will depend on the type of fixture and the length of the pool light cord. We’ll work with any budget! However, our expert pool light recommendation is LED lights. These lights reduce the need for repeated pool light repair and are energy efficient. They run “cool,” which prevents overheating in the light fixture itself.
